Someone once called me crazy for camping in Idaho when it was -25 degrees out. I called them a joker. In other words, some people get a thrill out of extreme cold camping. Before you go, remember these precautions to stay safe.
Bring a hanging cosmetic bag made for your camping conditions. An excellent sleeping hanging cosmetic bag is never more important than when the temperature is below zero. I once tried to use my 15 degree hanging cosmetic bag as a simple -5 degree hanging cosmetic bag. I am positive I almost died that night. Before the night was through I had used my belay parka, 3 beanies, two pairs of pants and my down boots, and still was not warm. It seemed like my sleeping hanging cosmetic bag wasn’t even warming me. Lying there, freezing rather than sleeping, I told myself never to make that mistake again. Before buying a new hanging cosmetic bag, I built a foam insert hanging cosmetic bag and a down cover to extend the range of my hanging cosmetic bag, this was a good option in a tight budget situation, but has nothing on my ultra warm hanging cosmetic bag.
Buy a fourth season tent. That mesh ultralight backpacking tent is great for going on a nice walk when it is 70 degrees. But it’s not even going to help when it is below 0. Spend the money, get a fourth season tent. Black Diamond and The North Face make some great tents. Because they are built for the wind and the cold, they are indispensable in these types of situations.
Remember you can go home. I have insisted so many times that I could survive in the
cold, even without the proper neccessities. No one is going to blame you when you come
home and it is -20, but they just might if you get frostbite on your nose, or fingers and toes like I have. Trust me it is not worth saying that you are that tough. Even Shackleton didn’t want frostbite.

When you finally decide on going camping, the next step is figuring out what type of camping you would want to do, either camping in a tent or choosing to stay in an RV. It all depends on how you feel, whether you want to rough it on the ground or stay comfortable in an RV. Both choices have their pros and cons. For some people it’s not as easy as just flipping a coin, some may think staying in an RV isn’t really camping, while others feel like staying in a tent will just keep you up and unable to sleep.
Cost can be a factor to choosing either option. If you are on a budget, purchasing or even renting tents, sleeping bags, and other accessories that you may need to “rough it” can be much, much cheaper than buying or renting an RV. If you go camping on a regular-basis, however, an RV can be a good investment since it can get you from A to B pretty well and most of the necessities already come with it.
RVs are great for those who absolutely need comfort when they go camping. It gives you the luxury of being at home in campgrounds. RVs have loft beds, power, showers, running water, pretty much all the necessities of home. Some RVs even have extensions and “patio” areas that help make it feel even more like home. It is also great if you want to go on long trips and/or if you choose to travel with others. You have the chance to stretch out your legs around the RV instead of stopping at rest stops to do so.
Camping in tents have the “ultimate camping experience”. Most people believe that camping is a way to get away from all the technologies and luxury of home. It is an “escape” to most people and a chance to enjoy nature and appreciate what we all have. There are now mats you can sleep in in tents, or even bigger tents that are able to fit at least six people and still have room for a communal area!
Like previously stated, it all depends on the type of camper. Figure out which type of accommodation suits you and your group best and it can mean the difference between having an enjoyable time and a disastrous experience.

If you want to get into camping, then congratulations, you have chosen a great sport! There are thousands of people across the United States and other countries that go camping every single year in order to enjoy the call of the wild and the great outdoors. There are so many reasons to go camping and it would be incredibly hard to list every single one of them here.
Some reasons for camping might include wanting to become one with nature, just having the experience, or even just wanting to get away. Whatever the reason, you can be rest assured that you will have a great time and enjoy your getaway from the rigors of technology and the fast paced world that we live in today.
Unfortunately for some it may be difficult to get into camping because tents can be prohibitively expensive. There is also the fact that some people may only want to go camping for a few days out of the year and don’t see the point of investing several hundred dollars in a tent that they will barely use.
Luckily, Northwest Territory manufactures tents that are dedicated to bringing you quality tents at a low price. These tents are an excellent choice for the occasional camper or for anyone who wants to get into camping without a high cost of entry.
For the price, Northwest Territory doesn’t skimp on nice features, like the bathtub style floor. This type of flooring helps keeps the inside of the tent clear of ground moisture, making it more comfortable for you.
Additionally, these tents feature sturdy ventilation panels all over so that you will be able to sleep comfortably at night. Good ventilation is also essential during the summer months, when most of us do our camping.
Another benefit to purchasing a Northwest Territory tent is their EZ Glide system, which makes it super easy to zip open and closed the doors and windows, without catching or tearing the fabric.
A popular model is the Northwest Territory First Up tent. Ideal for true camping beginners, this tent comes in just one piece, requiring you to just put it your favorite camping spot, place the supports in the correct positions, and pop the tent into shape. This comes in handy, too, for late camp site arrivals when it’s difficult to see in the dark. Even inexperienced campers can have an First Up tent ready to go in less than five minutes.
Northwest Territory has been making tents and camping dental supplies for years and while their tents aren’t suitable for harsh conditions and inclimate weather, they are sure to serve the beginner or occasional camper well for the foreseeable future. So head over to their website and look through their tent selection. You’ll probably find something you like, as they have something for everyone, and chances are you will find one at an extremely low price.
You will be able to find these tents at your local discount superstores, like K-mart, Sears, and Wal-Mart.

Camping tips for women for receiving the most out of the camping experience. Do you connect camping with plagues of insects, tossing and rotating all night on the hard ground inside your tent, and a general lack of civilized facilities? If you say “yes”, then you’ll probably never fall in the love with camping. However, there are ways of making the knowledge more enjoyable.
Bring some vital equipment
A strong, flexible and rain-proof tent is only the starting point of essential camping gear. Don’t even think about resting on the hard ground! Take some more time to check out the different kinds of air mattresses existing at camping shops. Come to a decision in how much you’re willing to spend, and then invest in the luxurious model, or grab the budget version – whichever you decide, an air mattress of any kind will really improve your excellence of life over the camping weekend. Let’s face it, it’s impossible to enjoy yourself when you’re suffering from sleep deprivation. Get a good sleeping plastic shopping bags also bring a pillow, and one more blanket than you’d anticipate needing.
Insect repellent and sun block are also essential items. And seal all perishable food in airtight containers to protect it from creepy crawlies. Don’t forget drinking water supplies, long-life milk, canned food, can opener, and tea and coffee – you don’t need to add caffeine withdrawal to your camping experience. Toilet paper is also a must! Tend to your basic comfort needs, or you’ll find it impossible to enjoy the weekend.
Importance of personal hygiene
How will you survive going without took bath for 2 nights? Try to bring extra deodorant, a washcloth, toothpaste and brush; wipe off cleanser, and plenty of tissues etc. A cake of hard soap is also a good idea: it’s difficult to keep soap dry when you’re camping, and mushy soap soon disintegrates into a soggy mess.
Pack an extra bottle of water for grooming urgent situations, and you can be sure that you can at least brush your teeth and splatter your face with fresh water, wherever you may find physically. If you don’t need it to wash with, you can always drink it.
If your hair is past shoulder length, try to keep it tied back, as you’ll be hard-pressed to keep it looking glossy, or to style it. There will be no outlets for hairdryers or electric razors, so make sure you’ve covered any potentially uncomfortable personal grooming issues before you go – waxing may be the best way of banishing constant leg stubble over the weekend.
Keep makeup to a minimum – some colored moisturizer or light foundation and colored lip gloss are quick and easy to apply and remove at the end of the day. You won’t look overcooked, but you also won’t be forced to sport a ‘nude’ face.
Essential attitude
If you are not a usual camper, it’s predictable that your endurance will be tried during the course of the weekend. You won’t be as comfy as you would be if you were home in your own bed or deep in a lavender-scented fizz bath. But keep in mind: if you hadn’t gone camping, you would never have witnessed that wonderful sunset, or been plagued by the natural freshness of a pine forest first thing in the morning.
Camping is definitely not everyone’s favorite free time activity. But having the right gear, being prepared for some low-maintenance loveliness essentials, and adjusting your manner to your new environment can really help you to enjoy the escape from your daily life routine. A little time spent soothing in nature can see you return recharged and renewed to your everyday life.

Going green and renewable energy are the buzz words of the day. Nearly everyone is conscious that we need to curb our massive energy appetite and start conserving. What’s not as clear is just how to do that. Often the green energy alternatives are expensive and complicated. Well this isn’t true for RV Solar Panels. Here’s five cool things about them and why they might be perfect for your ‘home away from home’.
1. Not As Expensive As You Think Most systems can be had for less $800 and there are some systems that are as little as $200. They are widely available at camping stores and websites, where you can find some of the best deals. And when you factor in the money you will save on fuel for your generator, the panels will usually pay for themselves in less than a couple years. Plus, the prices on solar panels have been falling dramatically lately. Many panels have fallen by 20%, and the trend should continue. And, hey, money is green right?
2. Easy To Install Since solar generates DC power, and most RV’s use DC power, these two are a match made in heaven. Even for rigs that use AC power, they have a battery or batteries that must be fed DC power. So installing the RV kit is often as easy as mounting the panel in a safe and stable place on the roof, and then running wire to the battery box. Most systems include a charge controller that prevents the cell from overcharging the battery bank. It’s also a cinch to expand the system later by simply adding another panel. Most charge controllers included in the kits can take an additional 1 or 2 solar cells.
3. Stay Out Farther, Longer When you get an RV Solar Panel installed, you’ll quickly realize that it extends your range for travel. You can go farther and stay out longer. Used to reserving fuel for the backup generator? Well now you can probably keep that for the vehicle and let the panels keep the batteries charged. And now you can use the stereo, microwave and TV for longer at night and not feel guilty, since the sun will just recharge the batteries for free in the morning!
4. Clean and Quiet If you’re tired of the noisy, messy backup generator, a solar kit can make you pretty much forget about all that. PV panels have no moving parts, require virtually no maintenance, make no noise, don’t need fuel other than ample sunshine, and are hassle free. Now you can get out into the woods and actually enjoy the silence of the wilderness. What a concept right?
5. That Green Feeling It can’t be understated that you will feel a sense of satisfaction by helping the environment, even if its a small contribution. After all isn’t RV-ing about getting away from civilization and appreciating mother nature? And wouldn’t it be great to be both enjoying mother nature and helping it out a little by burning less carbon? Now that’s a good feeling.

Base camping means that you’re camping on campgrounds where you don’t have to hike to reach it. It’s a good way to camp especially if you’re taking children with you. Before you go camping you first need to have a family camping tent.
To choose a family tent you first need to know the season or time of the year you’re planning to go camping and what the conditions are. Most family tents are three season tents which do well in mild weather in spring, summer and fall but may not be suitable in winter.
If you’re like most people who camp in the three seasons other than winter, then a 3 season tent would definitely be good enough. If instead you like to camp in winter or would like to try camping in winter, a 3 season tent might still keep you warm and dry but if you don’t want to risk it then go for 4 season tents or a convertible tent.
A convertible tent can be converted from a 4-season tent to a 3-season tent and vice versa. They’re heavier than 3-season tents but lighter than 4-season tents. They have removable parts that you can leave at home when it’s warm to reduce the weight.
The next step to choosing a family tent is to decide on how many people will sleep in the tent. You can use the person rating as a guideline but be aware that those ratings are meant for adult corpses rather than people. We recommend that you choose a tent that has a rating of two more people than you expect to sleep in it.
Then you want to consider the features of the tent. A vestibule is useful for storing wet and dirty gear. In bad weather and with good ventilation you can even use your camp stove to cook inside a vestibule. Room dividers are great for sleeping your children separately if you want to. Consider other features as well that make the tent more convenient for the family.
Ventilation is not only important in the vestibule if you intend to cook in it but it’s also important for the whole tent. It will help you keep cool and comfortable in hot weather and prevents condensation to keep you dry in cold weather. A rainfly and mesh vertical axis wind turbinesows can really help with ventilation.
You can now decide on the style of family tent. Family tents are mainly either cabin tents or dome tents. Cabin tents have more headroom than dome tents but dome tents have a stronger structure and sheds rain and vertical axis wind turbines better.
Ease is of set up is a good thing to consider when choosing a family tent. It used to be that dome tents are easier to set up than cabin tents but now there are cabin tents that can be easily set up in less than a minute. If the tent is easy to set up, you have more time to enjoy with your family.
